India’s coal production reaches 384 million tonnes by August in FY 2024-25

Ministry of Coal has recorded a significant increase in overall coal production, reaching 384.08 million tonnes (provisional) up to August 2024 in FY 2024-25 as against 360.71 million tonnes during the same period in FY 2023-24, showing a growth of 6.48 per cent. Production of Coal India Limited (CIL) during the period April to August 2024 increased to 290.39 million tonnes, a growth of 3.17 per cent as compared to 281.46 MT during the same period last year. Coal production from captive and other companies also witnessed a significant increase, reaching 68.99 million tonnes from April to August 2024 – a healthy growth of 30.56 per cent as compared to 52.84 million tonnes in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the cumulative coal dispatch till August 2024 has witnessed a significant increase. The cumulative coal dispatch till August 2024 was 412.07 million tonnes (provisional) in FY 2024-25 as against 391.93 million tonnes during the same period in FY 2023-24. This represents a commendable growth of 5.14 per cent.

Coal India Limited dispatched 309.98 million tonnes of coal from April to August 2024, showing a growth of 1.51 percent as compared to 305.37 million tonnes dispatched during the same period last year. Further, captive and other companies recorded a remarkable coal dispatch of 76.95 million tonnes, showing a very good growth of 31.48 percent as compared to 58.53 million tonnes dispatched during the same period last year. This growth highlights the superior logistics capabilities of the coal sector and commitment to ensure stable supply of coal.
