Assam’s semiconductor plant is boosting India’s manufacturing capabilities
The establishment of Assam’s semiconductor plant, spearheaded by Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd (TSAT), represents a significant milestone in India’s endeavor to bolster its semiconductor ecosystem. Investment and Capacity: The Assam semiconductor facility is being developed with a massive investment of ₹27,000 crore (approximately $3.3 billion) and aims to produce 4.83 crore semiconductor chips per day using indigenously developed technologies1. The plant is scheduled to start operations by mid-2025, with the first chips expected to roll out in that year.
The project is expected to create around 15,000 direct jobs and approximately 11,000 to 16,000 indirect employment opportunities. This influx of employment is anticipated to incentivize skilled professionals to return to Assam.
