₹33,500 Crore Development Projects launched for Delhi

In a major boost to regional connectivity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the remaining stretches of the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and flagged off the Meerut Metro, dedicating development projects worth approximately ₹12,930 crore to the nation. The event, held at the Shatabdi Nagar station in Meerut, marks the complete operationalisation of India’s first RRTS corridor.

The 82-km Namo Bharat corridor now fully connects Delhi to Meerut, with the newly opened sections including the 5-km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, and the 21-km link between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh. This completion reduces the travel time between the two cities to under an hour—specifically, 58 minutes from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram—a significant improvement from the three-hour road journey.

In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, the Prime Minister also flagged off the Meerut Metro, which will operate on the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat corridor. Described as India’s fastest metro with an operational speed of 120 kmph, it will cover the 21-km Meerut South–Modipuram corridor in about 30 minutes.

The projects are also expected to generate employment opportunities and boost economic activity in the region while improving connectivity and public services across different parts of the city. The launch of these projects forms part of the government’s broader efforts to transform urban infrastructure and ensure balanced and sustainable development in the national capital region.
