India exports first consignment of fig juice to Poland

Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the export of India’s first ready-to-drink fig juice made from GI-tagged Purandar figs to Poland. The consignment of fig juice was flagged off by Shri Abhishek Dev, Chairman, APEDA in the presence of all stakeholders and departed via Hamburg Port, Germany on 1st August, 2024. This event is a significant milestone in promoting India’s distinctive agricultural products on the global platform.

The journey of this innovative fig juice started at the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority pavilion during SIAL 2023 held at Greater Noida, New Delhi. The international trade fair provided a platform for the displayed products to be recognised in the global market. The fig juice produced by Purandar Highlands Farmers Producer Company Limited caught everyone's attention and won an award at the event, which uniquely reflected its potential in the international market.

The continuous support and assistance of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority has played a vital role in the development and export of this product. Since the first export of fresh GI-tagged Purandar figs to Hamburg in the year 2022, APEDA has worked in full collaboration with small farmers. This product, which has been granted a provisional patent, represents an important innovation in the agricultural sector.

This achievement not only demonstrates the potential of Indian agricultural products but also underlines the importance of research and development in enhancing the value of agricultural exports. This achievement highlights the potential of Indian agricultural products along with the important role of FPCs in promoting economical agricultural systems and exports.
