ISRO successfully launches INSAT-3DS satellite
ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) has successfully launched its latest satellite INSAT-3DS. The launch took place from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, near the southern Indian city of Chennai. ISRO's GSLV-F14 rocket carried INSAT-3DS into space. The satellite will now be placed in Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). The subsequent maneuver will place the satellite in geostationary orbit.
INSAT-3DS will join the array of Indian satellites already in Earth orbit and will boost India's capacity for advanced meteorological observations. The satellite will monitor land and sea surfaces for weather forecasting and will also be useful for early warning of natural disasters.
