DRDO hands over first batch of indigenous actuators, airbrake control modules to HAL

Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) of Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has handed over the first batch of indigenous Leading Edge Actuators and Airbrake Control Modules to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). This is an important achievement towards self-reliance in aeronautical technologies. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Lucknow has already made preparations for the production of these to meet the existing order of 83 light combat aircraft Tejas MK1A.

The secondary flight controls of LCA-Tejas include state-of-the-art leading edge slats and airbrakes. It boasts of highly advanced servo-valve based electro-hydraulic servo actuators and control modules. These feature high pressure control modules, amazing design, precision manufacturing and testing and symbolize the Aeronautical Development Agency's continuous research into indigenous technological prowess.

The Aeronautical Development Agency plans to achieve self-reliance in these technologies in coordination with Research Center Building (RCI), Hyderabad and Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI), Bengaluru. Successful flight tests for the Leading Edge actuators and airbrake control modules have paved the way for production.

These critical components are being produced at Accessories Division, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Lucknow. This is a significant progress towards enhancing India's aircraft and spacecraft manufacturing capabilities. Certification agencies like CEMILAC and Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQSA) as well as public and private industries including Godrej Aerospace, Mumbai have made significant contributions to this effort.

Chairman, Department of Defense Research and Development, Secretary, Department of Defense R&D and Director General, Aeronautical Development Agency have congratulated the entire team of ADA, RCI, HAL, CMTI and all partner industries on this important achievement.
