MOD signed a ₹449 crore deal for advanced GNSS jammers
The contract was signed with an Indian defence manufacturer and aims to bolster the Navy’s electronic warfare capabilities by enhancing its ability to counter threats that rely on satellite-based navigation systems. The advanced jammers will be deployed across various naval platforms, providing a crucial layer of protection against hostile navigation and positioning systems during maritime operations.
GNSS jammers are designed to disrupt signals from satellite navigation networks such as GPS and other global navigation systems. By denying or degrading an adversary’s access to accurate positioning, navigation and timing information, these systems significantly enhance operational security and effectiveness in contested environments.
The procurement aligns with the Government’s broader vision of promoting self-reliance in defence manufacturing and reducing dependence on imports for critical military technologies. The project is expected to provide a boost to the domestic defence industrial ecosystem, generating opportunities for indigenous suppliers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and skilled employment.
The induction of the Enhanced Capability GNSS Jammers will strengthen the Indian Navy’s preparedness for modern electronic warfare scenarios and support its mission to safeguard the nation’s maritime interests. The acquisition also reflects the growing emphasis on developing and deploying advanced indigenous technologies to meet the evolving security challenges of the maritime domain.
With this contract, the Ministry of Defence continues to advance the objectives of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by equipping the Armed Forces with state-of-the-art, domestically developed systems while fostering innovation and growth within India’s defence manufacturing sector.
