11,000 Saksham Anganwadi centres inaugurated at Poshan Maah at Rachi
On September 30, 2024, over 11,000 Saksham Anganwadi Centres were virtually inaugurated across 20 states during the closing ceremony of the 7th Rashtriya Poshan Maah, held in Ranchi, Jharkhand. This significant event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt. Annpurna Devi, and the Governor of Jharkhand, Santosh Gangwar.
The focus of this year’s campaign included critical areas such as reducing anaemia, monitoring child growth, and promoting complementary feeding through the initiative “Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi,” which integrates nutrition with education25. Additionally, the campaign emphasized environmental sustainability through the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, encouraging tree planting activities at Anganwadi centres.
Throughout the month of September, approximately 12.86 crore sensitization activities focusing on various nutrition-related themes were conducted across 36 states and union territories. This success showcases the intensive efforts made by different states to improve child nutrition and health.
Saksham Anganwadi Centres are upgraded facilities designed to enhance nutrition, child development, and early childhood education. They feature improved infrastructure, such as LED screens, clean drinking water systems, and resources for early childhood education and nutrition. The ceremony highlighted the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders in achieving a healthier and more nourished India, marking a significant stride in the country’s ongoing battle against malnutrition.
